How It Works
Full Bloom Reading Program aims to provide personalized reading instruction that will propel 2nd – 5th grade students’ reading fluency and inspire their love for reading books. By providing one-on-one reading instruction and effective reading strategies, students will grow in their ability to read and reach their goals.
1
Reading Assessment
Students take an informal reading assessment to determine their current reading level. During the first week of the program, students will read Benchmark Books aloud to the instructor and they will record their reading behavior. This data will be used to personalize their guided reading lessons.
2
Phonics Instruction and Guided Reading Lessons
Students participate in systematic, explicit phonics instruction and guided reading lessons three times a week that target skills needed to improve reading fluency. Systematic and explicit phonics instruction provides practice with letter-sound relationships in a predetermined sequence. Students will learn to use these relationships to decode words that contain them.
Along with phonics instruction, students will be engaging in phonemic awareness activities and listening to stories and informational texts read aloud to them. They will also be reading texts (both out loud and silently) and practice writing letters and words.
3
Reading Data
Reading assessment data and weekly observations are communicated to parents to see improvements over time. Data from the first and last week of the program will be discussed with parents via Google Meet. Weekly observations will be communicated via email.
